Scarlett Johansson - Last Goodbye (cover Jeff Buckley) So Odd.

Here is Scarlett Johansson next cover artist Jeff Buckley. My ears appreciate this kind of Scarlett singing ten fold over the incomprehensible mess of her last album, which sounds great as background music at a Sunday croquet match in your backyard with your stereo volume at zero.

Sundance Winner: Push!

I must be missing something this movie looks fairly standard post "The Big Hit" style action film with a mutant twist but clearly the Sundance Institute thinks differently. Push was a awarded the Gradn Jury Prize, The Audience Award and That Other One Award wow should make for a pretty big opening weekend.

This is going to end in a lot of returned tickets once Chris Evan's PUSH(IT) is released. A lot of "well why didn't you tell me this wasn't the Push with Mo'nique?" Hopefully we can have a field reporter down there to film the potential mayhem.

Tom and Jerry CGI Masterpiece on the way!

From Variety:

Tom and Jerry head to the bigscreen

Warner Bros. playing cat and mouse game

Warner Bros. is turning to Tom and Jerry to create its own "Alvin and the Chipmunks"-like family franchise.

Plans are to bring the constantly warring cat and mouse to life as CG characters that run around in live-action settings.

Studio-based Dan Lin, currently producing the upcoming "Sherlock Holmes" and exec producer on "Terminator: Salvation," will adapt the classic Hanna-Barbera property as an origin story that reveals how Tom and Jerry first meet and form their rivalry before getting lost in Chicago and reluctantly working together during an arduous journey home.

Eric Gravning is penning the script.

Scribe wrote "B-Minor," which has Ron Howard attached to helm at Universal; "Mr. Burnout," which is set up at Participant Prods.; as well as "Class Act" at Walden Media, with Halle Berry aboard to star.

Warners owns the rights to Hanna-Barbera’s slate of popular animated properties and has several of them in development for bigscreen adaptation.

Those include Robert Rodriguez’s version of "The Jetsons" and producer Donald De Line’s "Yogi Bear."

The live-action/animated combo has worked for Warners before.

The studio successfully turned "Scooby-Doo" into a live-action franchise with two films that earned a combined $457 million theatrically and a direct-to-DVD feature in the works. It cast the Looney Tunes characters opposite Michael Jordan in "Space Jam" long before that, and there was Joe Dante’s "Looney Tunes: Back in Action," starring Brendan Fraser, in 2003.

Interest in the new projects certainly ramped up after "Alvin and the Chipmunks" earned a whopping $360 million worldwide, besting even Fox’s predictions for the pic, which was budgeted at $60 million. A sequel was quickly greenlit, with the singing rodents skedded to hit the screen again in 2010.

Revenue potential from worldwide box office, DVD, games and merchandise sales, as well as the potential for sequels and earnings from TV and homevid spinoffs, is considered too good to pass up.

The built-in familiarity of the characters has studio bosses feeling they’re not taking the kind of risk associated with creating a new property marketing mavens must promote from scratch.

"Tom and Jerry" originated as a series of 114 animated shorts, produced by MGM’s toon studio between 1940 and 1960, and won seven Academy Awards. New toons were produced after that, and Warner Bros. released "Tom and Jerry: The Movie" in 1992 as a feature-length toon.

Lin will produce "Tom and Jerry" through his Lin Pictures, while Jon Silk will co-produce.

Lin is also producing Cameron Diaz starrer "The Box" and Ricky Gervais starrer "This Side of Truth," and he’s exec producer on Rodriguez’s "Shorts."

Friday Night Lights - Season 3.1

We're going to start posting the entire run of new "Friday Night Lights" just cause we can! Here is Episode 1 from Season 3. This is John's favorite show on TV right now. Possibly ever.

We're Hungry! Old Town Alexandria

Our new sister restaurant review blog "We're Hungry" is now up and running with the first restaurant already eaten at the first review can begin. "We're Hungry" will focus primarily on Old Town, Alexandria up to the Masonic temple, down to the Potomac and in between where Old Town ends and begins North to South. Please note Del Ray is not included. The three reviewers will be Ahmed, Richard and John Bradley. Their goal is to eat at every restaurant in this area and let us all know how each one is. When they have completed eating at each place they will reeat at the Top 10 restaurants and countdown those down to the best restaurant in Old Town, Alexandria. We'll post every new review right here.

Stay tuned for more info.

Criterion Collection: Pickpocket

Just checked out "Pickpocket" last night, featuring strong direction from Robert Breeson. This is such a small movie it was passed over for 10 years in America. This never got a proper distribution deal until 1969 when it finally came out, to little fanfare. The film is deceptively quiet and simple but when you check the clock at the end you realize the film just flew by. Breeson casts no name regular people to play all his parts and you can feel it in their emotions and the way they interact within a scene. The beautiful Marika Green is simply stunning to watch in all of her scenes but never acts like she is anything special she is just a normal person. The training montages are top notch as Michel learns to pickpocket from a true master. Once the pickpocketings get more and more daring the film ramps up and you feel so overwhlemed watching how graceful the movements are from pocket to pocket. The choreography working here is pretty amazing and would still go over well these days. Michel is pretty perfect in his everyman role just struggling to get by day to day. Breeson is spot on with the subtle camera movements, and the lack of music makes the final scene that much more bittersweet. The intro from Paul Schrader informs us how much this movie affected him and how it ultimately shaped his script for "Taxi Driver." I highly reccomend "Pickpocket" as a wonderful addition to your collection.

Criterion Trailer 256: Short Cuts

If you haven't seen this and you love Magnolia you are missing out. Altman knocks this one so far out of the park. This was just rereleased as single disc without the short stories that inspired the movie included, so what are you waiting for?! Go Buy it!

This should have been great.

Way to drop the ball guy. This Lost as a sitcom has potential but it just banks off the back board and rolls down the driveway, into the street and then proceeds to be run over by a school bus.

The Most Productive Year of Blogging Yet!

2009 just became the most blogged year in the three years that this blog has been around! Let's Celebrate, it's alright! Thanks for reading folks! Thanks for sticking around and checking us out over the years! We're going strong and we've got plenty of more work to do.
No matter how hard it gets
We haven't finished yet!

Let The Right One In

I need to see this movie. I've read so much about this little Swedish Vampire Movie That Could. Hopefully it's on DVD in the states here real soon. I think this was also playing at E street for about a week and yet again I missed it.

Usually I hate other Waldo videos...

Ok this one made me just have to stop and say enough is enough. BetchFilledSancho you've gone too far this time! I love the adjusting the mirror bit o' business.

I'm so glad I finally have a room to put to the face. There are some gems in here, like which version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre to buy? Or how about which version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 to buy? These burning questions are answered in the following "Cribs" segment special edition tour of Ethan's Room! Enjoy!

The Strange Peoples/ The Strangers Spoof Teaser

She is saving her good stuff for the actual performance this is just the sound check. Grandma on bass. Ok so the dude is her brother! So many pieces to put together with this clan.

Fear Review

Who is the sad guy holding the camera? These two are awful at reviewing movies but there really is something odd about these two they really have it I think. These gals are going places! Help them out they average 12 views a video.

Just Cause

Guess what happens!

Watchmen Case Settled! HURRAH!

Warners, Fox settle over 'Watchmen'

Under the agreement, Fox will not be co-distributor

By Matthew Belloni and Borys Kit

Jan 15, 2009, 08:25 PM ET Updated: Jan 15, 2009, 08:41 PM ET

Geeks can now rejoice.

Warner Bros. and Fox have resolved their dispute over "Watchmen," with the studios scheduled to present a likely settlement to Judge Gary Feess on Friday morning and request that the case be dismissed.
Terms of the agreement will not be disclosed, but it is said to involve a sizable cash payment to Fox and a percentage of the film's boxoffice. Fox will not be a co-distributor on the film, nor will it own a piece of the "Watchmen" property going forward. The studios are set to release a joint statement announcing the agreement Friday.
A Warners spokesperson would not comment on the settlement. A Fox spokesman said no final deal had been reached.
Fox sued Warners in February, claiming copyright infringement based on agreements the studio had with producer Larry Gordon. Feess ruled on Dec. 24 that Gordon did not secure the proper rights to "Watchmen" from Fox before shopping the project and eventually setting it up with Warners. Feess' decision prompted settlement talks to heat up because Warners faced the prospect of an injunction stopping its March 6 release of the $130 million comic book adaptation.
While Gordon is not a party to the case, Warners is said to be pursuing the producer and his attorneys to reimburse it for the costs of the settlement. During the course of the litigation, Gordon's then-attorney admitted that he negotiated Gordon's 1994 separation from Fox without knowing about a pre-existing 1991 agreement on which Fox has based its lawsuit.
The rare showdown between studios became particularly nasty in recent weeks, with Gordon and the film's other producer, Lloyd Levin, lashing out at Fox for making a claim on the film. Fox repeatedly has stated that it asserted its "Watchmen" rights before Warners began production on the film and that it sued only when its assertions were ignored.
With the settlement giving Fox a piece of "Watchmen's" revenue, the studio now has a rooting interest in the film's success.

Steve Jobs Stepping Down (BREAKING NEWS)

The email Steve Jobs sent out to all the Apple employees:
Team,

I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.

I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.

Steve

What will this mean for the future of Apple? Probably nothing too substantial, but let's hope they can keep up their ridiculous streak of innovation without their fearless leader at the helm. He says he'll be back by the summer but apaprently he has "The Incredible Shrinking Man" disorder. Fight through it Jobs!

Death Row Inmate Eats Eye!

From the Associated Press:
Texas death row inmate pulls out eye, eats it
By MICHAEL GRACZYK – 16 hours ago
HOUSTON (AP) — A Texas death row inmate with a history of mental problems pulled out his only good eye and told authorities he ate it. Andre Thomas, 25, was arrested for the fatal stabbings of his estranged wife, their young son and her 13-month-old daughter in March 2004. Their hearts also had been ripped out. He was convicted and condemned for the infant's death.
While in the Grayson County Jail in Sherman, Thomas plucked out his right eye before his trial later in 2004. A judge subsequently ruled he was competent to stand trial.
A death-row officer at the Polunsky Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice found Thomas in his cell with blood on his face and took him to the infirmary.
"Thomas said he pulled out his eye and subsequently ingested it," agency spokesman Jason Clark said Friday.
Thomas was treated at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler after the Dec. 9 incident. Then he was transferred and remains at the Jester Unit, a prison psychiatric facility near Richmond southwest of Houston.
"He will finally be able to receive the mental health care that we had wanted and begged for from day 1," Bobbie Peterson-Cate, Thomas' trial attorney, told the Sherman Herald Democrat. "He is insane and mentally ill. It is exactly the same reason he pulled out the last one."
At his trial, defense lawyers also argued he suffered from alcohol and drug abuse.
Thomas does not have an execution date.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in October upheld his conviction and death sentence for the death of 13-month-old Leyha Marie Hughes. Also killed March 27, 2004, were his wife, Laura Christine Boren, 20, and their son, 4-year-old Andre Lee.
Thomas, from Texoma, walked into the Sherman Police Department and told a dispatcher he had just murdered the three and had stabbed himself in the chest.
Thomas told police how he put his victims' hearts in his pocket and left their apartment, took them home, put them in a plastic bag and threw them in the trash.
Court documents described the three victims as having "large, gaping wounds to their chests."
